Amtrak can be pivotal in mitigating climate change and fostering a cleaner, healthier planet by promoting sustainable practices. I strive to share ways to create a future that my generation can enjoy, and we will not be able to do that without a commitment to protecting our Earth from companies and individuals alike.
Sustainable development in rail is a multifaceted concept, encompassing environmental and economic dimensions. One of the immediate environmental benefits of sustainable rail development is the reduction of carbon emissions. Rail travel is inherently more energy-efficient and emits fewer greenhouse gases than traditional transportation modes, such as cars or airplanes. Supporting Amtrak's mission means endorsing a mode of transportation that respects and preserves the natural world. One area where Amtrak could add an objective for their NetZero goal is in this area. How could you work to make future or existing infrastructure more sustainable and more protective of the ecosystem it is a part of? Encouraging Amtrak to include objectives for ecosystem protection in its NetZero goals is a worthwhile consideration.
